About Dorothy Hassan

Dorothy Hassan’s life’s work is focused on community building. She is the CEO of a nonprofit dedicated to improving the lives of immigrants and refugee families. Dorothy is also an adjunct professor at Cornell University, holding a PhD in higher education. Prior to that, she spent 10 years as an English teacher. She is a mother of two Hilliard graduates and has two more children currently in school. Proud to be part of Hilliard’s rich diversity, Dorothy is committed to uniting the city’s growing communities and ensuring every resident has a voice in shaping the city’s future.

Why I’m Running:

“I believe in the strength of our community, and I’m running to ensure every resident feels heard, every family feels supported, and every neighborhood thrives. I will listen to and amplify the needs of individuals and families, advocate for responsible growth that respects our communities and environment, and foster inclusive leadership that represents all of Hilliard.” 

Key Policy Focus

  • Attract businesses while supporting current ones.

  • Work with schools to provide resources and programs.

  • Create platforms for residents to share concerns and ideas.

  • Enhance parks, public spaces, and community programs to build a vibrant and connected Hilliard.

  • Advocate for citywide development in harmony with the needs of our residents and environment.

  • Ensure city decisions are made with input from the people they impact the most.
